Enterprise: Prenu Services Pvt Ltd
Co-founder: Ms Rajitha Nair
Industry: Healthcare
Year of establishment: 2010
Location: Bengaluru, Karnataka

Ms Rajitha Nair founded Prenu Services Pvt Ltd almost a decade back to provide services in baby care, maternity care and home nursing to assist working couples in the ‘Silicon Valley’ of India—Bengaluru. Over the years they have expanded their services to other cities in India and abroad.

In conversation with GlobalLinker (GL), Rajitha shares her journey of providing niche home care services.

GL: Rajitha, what led you to become an entrepreneur?

Rajitha: I feel being an optimist is not enough. One needs to have faith and find opportunities in the path of life and this factor persistently ignited my mind towards entrepreneurship. I started my career as a service consultant, and it enriched my skillsets and this hands-on experience was of immense value when I set up my home health care entity. Initially, when I started my entrepreneurial journey, I had to face bitter times as I do not come up from a business family, but I was determined. Prenu Services Pvt Ltd has born of a desire to mitigate the worries of working parents in Bengaluru. I realised that there was a gap when it came to qualified and experienced baby care, nanny and maternity care services and decided to address this need. We are pioneering the unorganised segment of providing end-to-end mother and baby care services. By now we are meeting the ever-increasing customer requirements for governesses, japa maids, and even French speaking nannies. Prenu is touching lives beyond Bengaluru and serving esteemed clients of Chennai, Pune, Calicut, Coimbatore, Mumbai, Hyderabad and internationally in Singapore, Qatar and Dubai.

GL: What has been the most effective way of raising awareness about your business?

Rajitha: I believe a business makes a mark if it is unique and that has been our biggest strength. Most entrepreneurs are intimidated by upcoming technologies like digital marketing, Search engine optimisation (SEO), social media marketing. But these are proven methods to reach the customer universe at its peak. At the same time ‘old is gold’ referrals work transparently and effectively in carrying the message to the right pool.

GL: What are some of the challenges you face and how do you tackle these?

Rajitha: It is all about your ‘smart work’ to put across a solution for ever-growing problem in any domain. The difficult part is that resources (for trained caregivers) are scarce in comparison to the demand. Especially in rural areas, a lot of campaigning is required to identify women and educate them regarding the job opportunities this industry can offer.

GL: You are a Linker. Which offerings of GlobalLinker have helped you?

Rajitha: GlobalLinker is a great platform for growing your business network. I like the fact that there is a focus on quality in every element of the solution.

GL: What advice would you give to a new entrepreneur setting up their first business?

Rajitha: There is a lot to learn practically from your own experiences and through the life of great leaders and achievers. Be a scanner yourself and grasp everything regardless of its perceived importance. Fill your archery with useful weapons and utilise it effectively as and when you come across challenges. A successful businessperson needs to be calm, resourceful and astute, even when the tide is against you.

GL: What is the next big thing on your business agenda?

Rajitha: The next level dream is to enrich the existing service with more proficient caretakers and ensure that maximum households have access to home health care support with our distinguished services. Our vision is to expand our national and global footprint.

GL: We would love to know the person behind the entrepreneur.
