Let me share with you something that's become a game-changer in my life recently—Sunday planning. You know, that day we usually reserve for Netflix binges and naps? Well, it turns out that dedicating a bit of it to strategizing can set the stage for a fantastic week ahead.
I used to view Sundays as my "lazy day," but that changed when I stumbled upon the concept of Sunday planning. It's not just me; some pretty impressive people swear by it too. Take Elon Musk, for example. He's all about consistency and forward-thinking. He once said, "I get up at the same time every day, and I plan my day ahead on Sundays." That's a guy who knows the importance of keeping it organized! Then there's Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook and author of "Lean In." She's all about balance and work-life harmony. She says, "I always take time on Sunday to plan and prioritize my week." Now, that's a woman who's got her act together! And let's not forget Warren Buffett, the legendary investor. He's got a simple yet brilliant approach—he makes a "2 List" strategy. You focus on your top 5 goals and leave the other 20 aside.
That's Sunday planning in a nutshell—setting clear priorities.
My Top 5 Goals for this week:
1. Write this LinkedIn post today {wink}
2. Update my Bigin Sales Pipelines
3. Reach out to 15 people I met during the recent Zoholics event
4. Catch up with my Cebu community on Wednesday
5. and Saturday Spend 1 hour a day reviewing the draft of my next book {Hint: it is about customers}
Sunday planning isn't a one-size-fits-all deal. There are different schools of thought, and it's about finding what works for you.
1. The Productivity Enthusiast Approach - This one's for the planners. You create meticulous to-do lists and set specific goals. Books like David Allen's "Getting Things Done" and Tim Ferriss' "The 4-Hour Workweek" are your go-tos.
2. The Reflective Approach - If you're into mindfulness and personal growth, this one's a gem. You reflect on the past week, learn from your wins and losses, and set intentions for the upcoming one.
3. The Balanced Approach - Work-life balance is your jam. You make sure your week includes not just work tasks but also self-care, family time, and maybe some Netflix (because, why not?).
4. The Minimalist Approach - Simplify, simplify, simplify. You cut through the noise and focus on the essentials. Less overwhelm, more success.
Now, here's how I do it. I fall into the reflective camp. I take some quiet time on Sundays to think about the past week. What went well? What didn't? What can I learn from it? This bit of introspection helps me grow and make better choices in the days ahead. But hey, we're all different. What works for Elon, Sheryl, or Warren might not be your cup of tea, and that's perfectly fine! The key is to find a Sunday planning approach that vibes with your goals and values. Can't Wait for Monday? So, whether you're into Sunday to-do lists or prefer reflecting and simplifying, remember this: "The difference between successful people and very successful people is that very successful people say 'no' to almost everything", says Warren Buffett. It's all about saying 'yes' to the things that align with your SMART goals, and Sunday planning can help you do just that.
So, who does Sunday planning? Well, those who want to kickstart their week with a bang, and I'm one of them.
Give it a try, and you might find that your Sundays become the secret sauce to your success.
