World Bamboo day: 18th September World Bamboo Organization (WBO), the first celebration of World Bamboo day was declared with representative of 46 bamboo growing countries and to coincide with the Royal Thailand Forestry Day on 18th September 2008. The declaration was made by me along with the Governor of Bangkok on 18th September. Ever since, 18th September is celebrated as the World Bamboo day. In India in 2009, the first World bamboo day was held at Kohima, Nagaland by the Government of Nagaland and WBO which was presided by the His Excellency the Vice President of India Dr. Hamid Ansari along with HE the governor of Nagaland Shri Nikihil Kumar and Shri Nephiu Rio, Chief Minister , Nagaland . The event was attended by all the states of India including representatives from 12 countries. Now all over the globe World Bamboo day is celebrated with much fanfare and enthusiasm by bamboo ****** all over as an event to promote bamboo. Ever since this event is organised globally.
